Interview with Erin Giles

I have been following Erin for about a year and I have always found inspiration in her advice. When she recently re-branded her business to incorporate philanthropy into her business model, I was intrigued. When I watched her video (see below), I knew I wanted to help spread her message. Now she is showing other female entrepreneurs how to do the same with her Rocket Your Revolution e-course (new course starts in August). I was thrilled when she said yes to do an interview on Everyday Inspired, I hope you enjoy getting to know Erin as much as I did.
Thank you Erin for sharing today!

You have gone from managing other peoples business, to coaching female entrepreneurs, to re-branding your whole business to help other female business owners launch their own revolution. How and why did you decide to make this transition?
I wouldn't say it was a transition, more like a journey. I found myself like many others in my twenties, figuring out what I did and didn't enjoy which ultimately led to my mega passion. When you find it, just like your spouse, you know + I am so relieved and thankful to have found it and do it everyday.

Your process of re-branding happened rather quickly, what were some of the challenges you faced during this process?
The only challenge I can think of was time...I didn't have enough. I had a lot of work to do in a short amount of time because of the date I had set to launch my program. But unlike my previous two websites, this one came with ease. I experienced total confirmation during my re-branding because the copy and the graphics happened without much resistance or doubt.

With so many big changes in your business how do you stay motivated to meet your goals?
Ambition keeps you motivated, and that my friend is one thing I have plenty of. I know my ultimate business dream, and each month I work towards that. I also set monthly goals and keep them in front of me every day on my bulletin board. If you are going to achieve your goals making sure the work you do every day moves you towards that is key, or else you will get sidetracked.

How does coaching female entrepreneurs inspire your own business?
The women I coach in Rocket Your Revolution are incredibly inspiring. I am inspired by what changes they want to see in the world and how their passion for that cause is fueling their revolution. They are all so talented + innovative, it blows my mind. I have actually been caught crying happy tears while reading their homework in our secret facebook group. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't have several pinch me moments:)

As founder of End Sex Trafficking Day (9.26.12), can you tell us a little about this amazing project.
End Sex Trafficking Day is a virtual event fueled by my passion to fight it. With 30 million people, the majority of them being women and girls, enslaved in this modern day form of slavery, I knew one donation wouldn't cut it. So I created a day where a book would be for sale that was a collaborative effort by 60 brilliant writers with all proceeds going to the Not For Sale Campaign. Share the site, mark it in your calendars, and get on the list this is one cause that we shouldn't ignore.

Is it Time to Re-vamp Your Creative Business?

If you have been in business for years or just a few months it's always good to look at your business closely every few months,  and see what you can re-vamp to make your business function at it's best.

When you are doing the evaluation of your business, their are several area you should consider:

Re-think how you feel about your business - Do you like what you do? Are you making the money you need to make? What is working? What is not working? Are you inspired by your business?

Re-vamp your physical environment - How is your work space, Are your comfortable in your space? What can you do to make your space the perfect working environment? Do you like the color? Is it organized the way you want?

Re- inspire your products - Are your products moving as quickly as you want them too? Do you need to find a new source of inspiration? Does your product have more then one use? Can you market it differently? Do you like it?

Re-design your shop, blog, and social media - Is it time to create a new banner and avatar? How are your Etsy shop sections? Do you need to update your tags and titles? Is your blog drawing the readers you want? Are you writing content that inspires you and your readers? Are you on social media sites you enjoy?

Refresh yourself - Do you have a daily routine? Are you taking care of yourself? Do you have positive thoughts about your business daily?

Don't limit yourself to just these questions. As you start answering questions new ones will come up, make sure you write those down as well. When you are done with the question answering process, create a list of all the thing you want to change.

Don't try to change everything at once, work slowly. Choose one or two projects, put the action steps on your to-do list and work on them until they are complete.

Reevaluate you changes after a month and then again at 6 months. Make sure everything is working to your satisfaction. Make any changes necessary, and watch the business you love grow.

Going through this process will get you thinking about your business, how you can make it better, explore new ideas, and get inspired to make the changes you need for your success.

When was the last time you re-evaluated your business?

Motivation Monday

When the weather is nice and you want to be outside, or your tired, or maybe just not in the mood to work, a little motivation goes a long way to helping you get your work done.

Here are five tips to help you stay motivated.

Remind yourself why you do what you do - a reminder goes a long way in motivating yourself to keep on working.

Make your environment comfortable - A change of location is always nice.

Schedule breaks - work a little, play a little. When you allow yourself some play time, working is a lot easier.

Alternate projects - working on a couple of projects at a time to keep your mind engaged.

Start a support group - talking or meeting with like minded people is a great way to stay inspired.

However you decide to motivate yourself, stay positive.  A positive attitude is the best motivator of all!

Be Inspired on Vacation

When on vacation we try to see as much as possible and end up rushing around so you don't miss anything.

Instead of rushing around, tap into your inner artist. Take things a little slower when you visit a new location. Reflect on your experience, and use your travel journal to remember and be inspired.

1. Enjoy the fashion as art - People watch and see all the fashions. Check out where people are shopping for the most fashionable shop.

2. Try the local food - Try something you have never tried before, let the food inspire you.

3. Check out the music scene - Be inspired by what's played in the cafes, on the streets, and even the clubs.

4. Ride the local transportation - This is a great way to experience the city, and feel its true cultural rhythms.

5. Seek out street art - Some of the best art can be found on the street. Visit small galleries, cute boutiques, and local parks for cool sculptures.

6. Go places artists go - Visit bookstores, art supply shops, open studio's. Pick up local papers and find artists events.

7. Spend time people watching - Take an afternoon visit a coffee shop with your journal/sketchbook and let the people, and conversations inspire you.

Traveling like an artists has less to do with what you do and more about how you do it. Be curious, pay attention to the details, be observant, and reflect. Record your ideas to use later as inspiration.

Take time for art to enhance your vacation experience.

What is your favorite way experience art on your vacation?

Vacation Journal

Next time your on vacation or even a day trip don't forget your journal. Try to take a few minutes everyday and jot down your thoughts of the the day, the places that you visited, inspiring things that you saw, and any new ideas.

Traveling is a great time to let your mind relax and open up to new ideas. All the new sites, sounds, and smells will inspire you.

Not into writing, then try a photo journal instead. Take lots of pictures of inspiring sites, and keep a small note book with the ideas that were inspired by the picture. When you get home you can organize them to have as a future reference.

Do you journal when you are on vacation?

How do you Define Success

As I look back at the first half of the year, things have really changed for my business. One of my goals for this year is to build the brand of my Additions jewelry collection and get more sales.

I spent a lot of time changing all my tags and titles for every items in my shop, and since the beginning of the year my Etsy sales have doubled each month compared to what I did last year.

When I made the plan to grow my business, I decided to do more art/craft shows. I mentioned before that doing shows is a challenge for me because I had surgery on both of my knees, but I decided I wanted to make more money so I have add a show to my schedule every month.

My shows have been going well, and with my show income and my etsy income, business is looking good.

Last month I added a couple big projects to my plate. I had an order for 60 necklaces for a non-profit organization, that took almost 2 weeks to complete. I was so happy when they were done and I was able to ship them out! I recently found out that Willy Mays, Bill Clinton, and Michael Reagan were each be given one of the necklaces.

I made 60 of these
I am also working with a national company that is including three of my pieces on their website and in their catalog. Their first order will be for over 400 pieces. I am so happy to have my daughter helping me this summer.

As a member of The Artisan Group I had the opportunity to include a piece of my jewelry in a gift basket for American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, and Nia Peeples a star on Pretty Little Liars. It was fun to create pieces for both these lovey ladies.

Jordin Sparks
Nia Peeples
Things are moving and shaking with my business these days. When I talk with friends they always express how happy they are that my business is successful.  It's still hard for me to think of my business as successful.  I still spend my days worring about having Etsy sales, and when things slow down I freak out a little.

I realized that I need to create a list of how I define success to help me put things in perspective.

My sister and I are going on vacation tomorrow. We are driving to Colorado and checking out galleries in a variety of cities across the state. During this trip I am going to work on my success list. So as I start crossing things off my list, it will help me appreciate the success my business is experiencing.

Do you have a list of how you define success for your business?
