We need to think about ourselves and our needs every now and then. We spend a lot of time taking care of others, but not making enough time for ourselves during the week.
I'm not talking about creative time or the time you spend on your business, but quiet time for just you and your thoughts.
Is it time to make a date with yourself?
We tell ourselves that we are going to take a day off or go out for an afternoon, but when the time comes we find excuses not to go. I am really guilty of this, I spend most of my time working and not taking time off. Maybe it's time to start scheduling some time just for pampering ourselves.
Adding a date to our calendar gives us something to look forward too. Making it a regular event in our schedule gives us something to look forward to and eventually creating a self-care a habit.
Some simple ides for enjoying time with yourself:
Go to a museum or gallery
Read
Watch one of your favorite movies
Talke a nap
Go on a nature hike
Enjoy a bath
See a performance at a local theater
Take a walk on the park
Time to yourself should be integrated into your life, not squeezed in when you have spare time. Take out your calendar and pick a day or an hour where you can enjoy some me time on a regular basis.
What do you like to do when you take time for yourself?
I take lots of time to myself and am always drawn to the beach. I love to beach comb and listen to the sound of the water. It really helps when I'm stressed out.
ReplyDeleteI am very guilty of not taking enough time for myself. I know I do better when I take the time, but I feel bad that I'm not getting to the next goal. Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to schedule regular time for myself on my calendar!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I am re-reading Sarah Ban Breathnach's book, SIMPLE ABUNDANCE, this year, and she also recommends some time for self-nurturing. It rarely happens during tax season, but I am going to try to schedule at least an hour of "Me" time.
ReplyDeleteAren't we in the same boat, just look at today's post on Kanelstrand! We are reading our minds!
ReplyDeleteIt's so very important to do this once in a while - it really makes a difference in our attitudes and stress levels.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely one of my goals for 2013! I am constantly working at either my day job, or on my art and rarely have time to stop and just relax or do something just for me. Thanks for this post! It's helping to keep me on track! LOL
ReplyDeleteI am so guilty here too!! Sometimes on Sunday nights I force myself to find a movie On Demand that is foreign or independant to remove me from reality for a brief time. :) My problem is sitting still. I find myself pausing it and going back into my office and finishing the movie later. I guess that is better than no "me" time.
ReplyDeleteI do this spontaneously sometimes, but it's usually just, I feel like watching movies all afternoon and doing nothing. I'd like to make a date to go out and do something:)
ReplyDeleteEver since the holidays were over, I've been trying really hard to take the weekends off like normal people (haha)... so far it's been working.
ReplyDeleteI feel refreshed and excited for the work ahead of me on Monday, but also fulfilled, because working in our little quiet environments constantly alone can get isolating... it's so good for the soul to break that cycle and get out into the world once in a while! :)
I just left the Kanelstrand blog earlier with my favorite suggestion being her #2, which is YOUR post for today!
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to make time for yourself, and it's something I really need to work on more. =0)
I like to read or write. I also just answered your poll question...I do keep a journal. Although, I haven't written in it in for what seems like forever!
Love this post!

It is so important to do this on a regular basis! One of my favorite things to do by myself is take walks. Sometimes I bring my camera and sometimes I just listen to music.
ReplyDeleteA cup of tea and a favorite magazine with my feet up. It is a necessary part of my day!
