Artist Trading Cards

There are so many ways to own original works of art. Etsy gives you hundreds of options at very reasonable prices.

ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) give you the opportunity to collect all different types of art, from a variety of different artists and medium. I am starting to collect ACEO's and it's quickly becoming my favorite way to collect art.

Artist trading cards are miniature works of art that are about the same size as a baseball card. Cards are produced in various media, including pencil, pen, marker, paint, collage, papercuts, found objects, even metals or cloth.

M. Vänçi Stirnemann is credited in many circles with popularizing the modern artist trading card in 1996, holding trading sessions in Zurich, Switzerland. The interest of Artists trading cards has spawned the popular ACEO movement.

The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold, but there is a wonderful collection of ACEO's that you can purchase on Etsy. Here are a few of my favorites.

Gratitude Mosaic ACEO Whimsical Mixed Media Art by JCSpock

ACEO 2.5x3.5 Original Half Alive Media by latienditadelmix

It was really hard to choose the ACEO's for this post, because I loved so many.  You can see a few more that I loved at the bottom of this page in my Etsy favorites. Check out all there Etsy shops, their are many beautiful ACEO's to choose from.

Have you ever produced, purchased, or traded Artist Trading Cards?

  2. Those are fantastic! Especially the "Gratitude Mosaic" and "Oval Bloom". :) My sister Jordan sells some ACEO cards in her shop, springshowers.etsy.com - one has the Mad Hatter, one has the Red Queen, and one has the March Hare! They're great, if you like ACEO cards you should take a peek. :)

Me and my sisters participated in a homeschool artist trading card group for months - it was quite fun, I made some cards I was quite proud of! LOL
