The Unoffical First Day of Fall

Have a Wonderful Labor Day

My daughter and I were talking the other day and she asked me about Labor Day and why it was a holiday. I had not thought about it in years and I could not really answer the question beyond the basic understanding of the holiday.

So today I thought I would share with your what I found out about the Labor Day in the United States, and what I shared with my daughter.

Labor Day was created by the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It's a national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, planned by the Central Labor Union. By 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

Labor Day has come to be recognized in the United States not only as a celebration of the working class, but also as the unofficial end of the summer season.

My family and I are going to spend a relaxing day with our neighbors.

What are your plans on for the unofficial last day of summer?
