Have you taken the time to sit down to picture what you want your business to look like in 5 year or even 10 years? Most people don't plan beyond a year, which means that they are dreaming too small.
It's time to dream one size bigger!
Have a planning session with yourself, or some journal time. Imagine what you want your business to look like in the future, write it all down everything you imagine, and then start a list of goals and action steps that will get you where you want to be.
If you push yourself to dream big, to make your goals one step beyond what is comfortable, it will force you to grow and believe in the greater possibilities.

I will still sew, and perhaps I'll still maintain my Etsy shop, but I'll be scaling back, not revving up. I've worked 2 and sometimes 3 jobs much of my adult life, and I'm ready to hop off that fast-paced treadmill and take a more leisurely stroll in my "golden years."
I have no plans.....I've found that life's twists and turns have ruined any ideas and plans that I had so I can't think into the future at all. I made $600 from jewelry and coin sales and thought I'd be able to reinvest in supplies and buy a new camera but my guy's truck requires a several thousand dollar repair so my money now has to go towards bills.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is hard to dream BIG, maybe due to insecurities or out of fear of failure. But wars are never won by having a negative attitude. We're taught early on about the little engine that tried - he chugged away saying "I think I can, I think I can". He would never have made it over the hill had he moaned; "I'll never make it. I cannot do this. "
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying that everything is possible by merely having a positive attitude, because success goes hand and hand with perseverance and lots of hard work. In aiming for success there can be no room for negativity and self doubt. Half the battle is believing in one's self.
This is such a good question--I've had to change my mind so much in the past few years cuz of roadblocks and such, my business isn't what I thought it'd be in the sense that I'm not even selling the same stuff I originally was selling.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm glad I made those plans and those goals, because a lot I learned from the Etsy shop is now going into other art pursuits I'm aiming at. Would've never learned anything if I hadn't kept going by dreaming farther.
