This the time of the year when you start planning your summer getaways for the summer, so why not schedule yourself a one day adventure.
It's as easy as blocking out some time, hopping in your car, and going for a drive with no destination in mind. Or getting on the train and getting off at a new stop.
Stop when you see something intriguing, eat something you have never tried before, take back roads and side streets, and have a conversation with a local.
Don't forget your journal/sketchbook so you document your adventure.
This is my favorite thing to do when I need to recharge my creative batteries, I have gotten some of my best ideas while in the car. Plus I have found some pretty amazing places that have become my favorite places to go.
When was the last time you had an unplanned adventure?
Hmm...I'm a big planner, so this would be quite a challenge for me ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm not one for spontaneous trips...I need to plan. As for summer travel, the roads on and near Cape Cod are so clogged w/ tourist traffic that the locals stay home.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I love to do this in the summer! We'll be doing a few of these trips this year. We've discovered great towns and attractions this way. :)
ReplyDeleteI love to do this!! When I get a Friday off work I love to hop in to the car and see where the day will take me. Always bring a camera because you never know where you might end up!!

I'm tied to my TO DO list, and never seem to get to the bottom. This sounds like a fun idea, though.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend and I sometimes do this on Sundays in the summer. We get in the car and have no idea where we are going. We end up with the best memories when we do this! Of course I always bring my camera.
ReplyDeleteSpontaneity can be fun, it definitely breaks us out of our rut and exposes us to different things. And different experiences do enrich our lives.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to go on a road trip vacation with my hubby, rent an RV and just follow the road wherever it may lead us. Well may someday. :)
My last unplanned one was this past weekend. With Lucy in the back seat, we headed out, ran into road detours, and zig-zagged to new sights. I used to do more of this years ago, it really is nice to explore.
ReplyDeleteI usually have unplanned adventures when I lived in NYC. There isn't much outside of Charlottesville so can't really explore unless I explore the mountains and farms.
