Mood Boosting Strategies

One of my personal goals for the new year is to have a more positive attitude.

On my quest to be a more positive thinker I ran across these 5 simple mood boosting strategies.

Appreciate the little things - each night before bed write down three positive things that happened to you during your day. This is a great way to focus on what's going on right now and savor it.

Find someone to share your achievements - it can be family, a friend , or even your blog community. The support you receive will reinforce all the positive things that are happening in your life.

Know your hot buttons - if you avoid all the things in your life that cause you unpleasant challenges, and concentrate on ways to get past it quickly, each day will only get better as you work to avoid these problems.

Get moving - if you take a few minutes when your at the bottom of your energy cycle, get up and move (take a walk, dance, or stretch) it will refresh your brain and push away that tired feeling.

Cheer on those around you - when someone has a good thing happen to them be really happy for them, and cheer them on. It will boost your mood and make you feel great about yourself as well.

All five of these mood boosting strategies are easy to incorporate into your life and will  help you to be happy now!

What do you do when your mood needs a boost?

  1. I love these and in fact employ most of them on a daily basis! :) I have this terribly ridiculous energy release dance that I do when I can feel the negative energy building in me. I jump around, flap my arms, stamp my feet, shake my head, wiggle my fingers... needless to say I usually only do it when alone (although my girls think it's pretty funny!). It really does the trick. I can feel it seeping away as I flail. ;) I'm also on constant negative thought radar. As soon as I detect a negative thought or feeling I switch it and find somethig positive. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it, and just as effective as my energy dance! A very admirable goal Valerie. :)

  2. Yay for a positive attitude!! Having someone to share your achievements can be very rewarding and motivating as well; my family and my circle of bloggy friends are great for that. :) And yes, cheering on and supporting others can really bring up your mood!! <3

Great list, Valerie, I hope it helps you out this year!!

  3. Valerie, this is a great list. I applaud you and on the alert for changing negative to positive thoughts too.

  4. Thanks for this list! Great things to keep in mind as we go through our days.

  5. Great ideas Valerie. I too tend to focus on or dwell on the negative. I will use some of your strategies to try and conquer this- to move quickly past the negative and focus on the positive!

  6. I think of things to be thankful for. It works for me, similar to your first method listed. TFS!

  7. Thanks for these great ideas! It's so important and at the same time so hard to find a balance. I couldn't get to sleep last night, mind racing with so many ideas and worries, including the simple living pledge! Isn't that crazy? !
When that happens I know I have to get organized, prioritize and write things down. It helps!

  8. Great list! Will work on point three ;)

  9. I need to focus on positivity more, too, so this was like the perfect post for me to land on, especially in the first month of the New Year! I really like the idea of writing down three positive things about my day before going to bed. My daughter tends to be a little like me, so maybe I can use these little things as reminders for her, too! Thanks, Valerie :)

Your thoughts and ideas are an important part of the conversation, thanks for sharing!
