The EPA estimates that indoor air is 2 to 10 time more polluted than outdoor air. Adding a plant to the inside of your home and office is a green way to improve the atmosphere.
Two small plants or one medium-size plant per 100 square feet will provide fresh air and healthy mold free humidity in any room.
The most effective plants for purifying indoor air include:
Bamboo palm
Chinese evergreen
Dragon tree
Chrysanthemum
English ivy
Here are some benefits that plants in your indoor space provide:
♦ They manufacture fresh oxygen and remove carbon dioxide
♦ They reduce airborne chemicals and VOCs emitted by formaldehyde, benzene, and ammonia
♦ They cultivate healthy levels of humidity
♦ They enhance the indoor environment and reduce stress
Go out and get yourself a plant or two for your studio/workspace. They will not only be visually pleasing, they will make the air you breath cleaner for you and the environment.
Do you have any plants in your work space?
Several years ago while on vacation I had been reading about plants, and the toxicity of indoor air. The first thing I did when I came home? Went plant shopping! It was helpful to know that there are many beautiful plants that require little sun, so I can place something in all corners of my home! The feel of all the green surrounding me is just wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteMy studio faces northeast, which way up here on the Canadian prairies means weak light much of the year. I do have a wonderful collection of cactii that I started from seed many years ago that thrive in the studio's corner window. They are perfect for this space and make me smile every time I look at them!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love house plants - I have several in my apartment (which doubles as my crafting space). I also have 2 on my desk at work, some of my co-workers tease me about it but it makes me feel more relaxed and at home.
ReplyDeleteLooking at that photo, I think it's a dragon tree I've got in my room... and I've also got a few small spider plants, I've heard they're good at cleaning the air, too. Plants definitely add to the look of a room in a great way!
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't know that! And we don't have a single plant in our house. I really don't have much for a green thumb, and with the cats, I just don't think about getting anything- they'd chew them up. BUT, when you put it that way....I need to look into it!
ReplyDeleteI am a plant killer--killed all of my succulents, herbs, flowers, and even a prickly cactus that I brought into my studio. But, I can say that the one thing that refuses to die is an areca palm -- at least so far. Now that I've written this, it might decide to die out of spite.
