Find a book in your collection that you enjoy, it can be any kind of book. Open it up to any page and point to any word. You could also do this process with a picture book, just open the book and answer the questions for the picture you have chosen.
Write down the word, and answer these questions.
What does the word mean to you?
How does it make you feel?
When you think of the word what pictures flash through you mind?
What kind of ideas does it generate?
How can you use those ideas in your creative process?
You now have a list of ideas you can use to get the ideas flowing. They may not be ideas you can use currently, but the process of going through the questions and creating your lists gets you mind in a more creative thought process, helping to get your creative juices flowing.
Do you have a favorite book that you would choose to try this exercise?
That's an AWESOME idea! Next time I've got writer's block, it's what I'm going to do. :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea....I usually do the "picture" thing, but I love the idea of picking a word.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!!
haha knowing my luck, i'd pry land on "the" or "and" or some other sort of conjunction
ReplyDeleteReal food for thought! Thanks for the brilliant idea! Haven't been behind a book for months now...time to take a plunge and get an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI do this often with Atlas Shrugged. It's one of my favorite books and for some reason whenever I land on a page it often tends to have a meaningful quote or word.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great way to get those creative juices flowing! :)
ReplyDeleteSee the power of positive thinking within you. God bless you
