What do you Think?

I have been working on my Etsy shop all summer. I have changed titles and tags, added several new pieces, and I'm half way through changing all my photos.

I have had mixed messages about my photos, because I have gone to a more neutral background. A lot of people like the colored background. I think the neutral background showcases the jewelry more, making it stand out in the picture.

I would love to hear what you think.

Below are a few photos for your to compare. Also, you can go to my Etsy page and see what a whole page in my shop looks like. You can see all the neutral pictures on pages 1, 2, & 3, and the more colorful pictures on pages 4, 5, & 6.

Thanks for taking the time to share your opinion.

What changes have you made to your shop this summer?

  1. photos are a tricky one which I can't really help you with :(

I used to have all white backgrounds but then decided they look too commercial, now I constantly change them, I re-take 5/10 photos every couple of days.

I'm not sure there is really an answer - with your pics about I like all the backgrounds! sorry!

  2. I think you're right (not that I'm an expert...I'm always redoing my photos!) Especially the pieces with color really pop against the neutral background.

I do think, however, that all silver piece does look better against the blue! arrrgghh! see what I mean? I can never decide!

  3. I agree with Thirty-Six Ten about the silver looking better against the blue. Generally speaking, I think lighter things look better on brighter or darker backgrounds, and vice versa. That said, though, I think the new pics look great! Congrats on all you've accomplished with your shop.

  4. I think neutral back ground when you have a colorful piece and maybe a bit jazzy if you have a more plain piece. With the necklace that has the reddish back ground, I think that adds character to the necklace and compliments the piece.

It is a lot of hard work. I have been doing a lot with my shop too and hopefully it will all pay off. I guess the plan is to be persistent. Don't quit before the miracle happens.

  5. I like the wood type background- but what I really like is that in the first two newer photos you've cropped them closer, so that the pieces fill more of the image. Also, I like that the angle of the jewelry is changing between photos, which makes it feel less like you just kept laying things down and taking a picture. Provides a little variation between pieces.

  6. Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts on my photos. Taking picutes has become my new job and it's a challenge. Feedback is great.

For the items currently in my shop I am only going to change the first shot, so I will still have the options to use the bright colored backgrounds.
