Thanks Pam!
Transformation 2010
I would like to start this guest blog experience by saying thank you to Valerie for giving me this opportunity.
Each new year we start with good intention to follow through on a goal we set for ourselves. Often we get off track and another goal bites the dust. I say we because I am guilty of this reality.
Early in December, while preparing to engage in an annual task, I realized the task I was doing was a goal I set for myself at the beginning of 1997. My plan for the end of the year was to assess how it worked for me and if I would continue into the next year. I do not remember if I actually did the assessment, but clearly it worked for me because I still complete the task on an annual basis. With that in mind, I assisted my sister Valerie with organizing her workshop.
I am sure many of you have seen the programs on TV where someone has a space in need of a little TLC and other programs where people need serious help. Well luckily for me Valerie's workshop only needed a little TLC with a dash of tough love.
To simply clean, may work in some spaces but many spaces need a complete overhaul for better function. It is important to start this process by making a commitment to change. If that commitment is not in place it would be easy to fall back into old habits which may lack organization. The following step may be helpful in getting started:
1. Identify why you need a space organized - take time and be thoughtful by adding to the list over time if necessary
2. Write down changes you would like to see in your space - be realistic based on physical limitations, budget and time
3. Find a source of support - be sure you support is reliable
Please stay tuned and I will share more about transforming a space for a new decade.

Here's a little food for thought - how long have you been avoiding "that" closet, room, drawer, basement or garage?

Thanks for the post! I am currently documenting my organizing journey on my blog ... it is certainly an ongoing task and not one that I will probably ever complete. So I agree with writing down the reasons so that you can refer back to them often!
ReplyDeleteMy office/studio is the one place I can't seem to organize. I'm attempting to do it again, but so need help. I look forward to your insights.
